My uncle

09. mi tio 2

Miguel Alonso is a retired biologist, specializing in limnology. He is deeply in love with Mongolia and its lakes, which he has been studying for years with the aim of creating the most comprehensive limnological catalog ever compiled.

On his latest journey, a small film crew led by his niece, the film director, accompanies him to capture this quixotic mission as they embark on a journey that will take them across Mongolia in a vintage Soviet-era van. The biologist and the filmmaker, uncle and niece, share the same desire for adventure and escape from their everyday roles.

However, throughout the journey, their plans will clash as they confront the taxonomic classification against cinematic storytelling: the biologist sees that the timing and methods of audiovisual production interfere with his mission, while the filmmaker begins to feel a distance from the character and his quest for cumulative knowledge.

Two characters who consider themselves antagonistic to each other but who experience their particular “conquest of the useless” with similar frustration.
